Typoglycemia describes a cognitive process in the brain that it activated when we see text that is spelled incorrectly, or if words are misplaced in a sentence. I've heard that this is called the Cambridge Reading System. Apparently, as long as the first and last letter is correctly placed in the word, we can automatically recognise the word. So in fact, we don't read every letter of ever word.
Research shows that typos definitely interfere with reading speed. (There’s a reason we have spell-checkers!) Tricky jumble puzzles that can take hours to complete also prove that, in the end, letter order and spelling absolutely make or break our comprehension of a word.
